At PAX East, there are a ton of virtual reality games, but only one has Rick Sanchez belching in your face. Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality , created by Owlchemy Labs, was on the show floor and since my computer is much too terrible to run an HTC Vive, this was my first chance to try it out. The demo at the Adult Swim Games booth was only a few minutes long, and instead of dissecting each minute in intense detail, I decided that it would be more interesting to just bang my head on the keyboard and see what happens.
Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality Demo
In the demo, you play as a Morty clone whose sole job is to do Rick’s bidding. First mission: do Rick’s laundry. Did you know that the washing machine in Rick’s garage has the same buttons as an air conditioner? I’m not sure if that’s Rick and Morty canon.
Spanking a plumbus is way more fun than it has any right to be.
Rick has been messing around with Mr.Meeseeks, turning the lovable blue helper into a slave with a VR headset glued to it’s face stuck inside a tiny ball. You want to get the VR Meeseeks into the driveway to pick up a package. I failed miserably – the demo was just too much for me. One of the people working the Adult Swim booth told me that I should have rolled the ball instead of throwing it. I felt stupid and ashamed for being dumb; Rick did his job right.
Throughout the demo, Rick is burping and barking at you to do better and improve. It was hard to focus on the actual gameplay since I was laughing so hard.
More Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality games are on their way later this year, hopefully after season 3 comes out. I crack myself up sometimes.
