The Last of Us: Part II continues to be one of the most anticipated titles for the PlayStation 4, even with titles like Death Stranding already having been given a release date. The Last of Us sequel has been in development for almost five years now, with studio Naughty Dog starting after the release of the remastered edition of The Last of Us on PS4. Even with this timeline, there’s still no concrete release date in sight, which has been the source of both excitement and frustration as to when Ellie and Joel’s next adventure could end up dropping.
There have been many supposed leaks and credible rumors pointing to The Last of Us: Part II’s release date, although most of them have been disproven, mostly due to the timelines being outright wrong. However, after several weeks in hibernation, the rumor mill for The Last of Us: Part II has started once again – what’s different is that this time, it has a very credible name beside it.
In a post on a currently ongoing thread on the video gaming forum ResetEra, ZhugeEx, who is also a senior analyst at Niko Partners and a well-known industry insider, has released some information which holds the proper release date for The Last of Us: Part II. In the post, which was lifted from Chinese gaming forum A9VG, it is stated that The Last of Us: Part II will be releasing in February of 2020, which is less than a year from now and less than a year from when the supposed next-gen consoles will be dropping.
It’s also noted in the original post that there will be four varying editions of the game planned for release: a standard edition, a special edition, a collector’s edition and an ‘Ellie’ edition. There are no more details as to what each edition includes, although it’s worth noting that there’s a separate edition for Ellie other than the collector’s one. This may point to some sort of special collectible, like a figure or model, which is exclusive to that edition.
As reliable as ZhugeEx may be, having already been at the forefront of so many good leaks and rumors now, it’s still important to take this news with a grain of salt, as with all good speculation.
The Last of Us: Part II will be released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 at a still unspecified date.
