Though many entities, including Samsung, have urged Galaxy Note 7 owners to power down their devices and return them for new, safe models, there may still be many who have decided to brave it out and keep the smartphone.
For those people, Samsung has begun sending out a software update intended to make the Galaxy Note 7 less volatile. Samsung is now rolling out an OTA update, which will decrease the Galaxy Note 7 charging amability to up to 60 percent, according to the Associated P r e s s . This means less power will flow into the device when charging, making it less likely the device will charge to full capacity.
Currently, the update appears to be available only in Korea . There is no word on whether it is coming to other markets, including the U.S.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been recalled since Sept. 2 , with the company admitting to over 35 incidents of Galaxy Note 7 explosions. More allegations surfaced after the recall began, including one in a U.K hotel that caused £1000 in damage, and another in a Jeep , which destroyed the entire vehicle. There have now been over 70 claims of Galaxy Note 7 explosions.
Reports also indicated that a six-year-old boy had been injured after a Galaxy Note 7 exploded in his hands. However, it turns out the device in question was not a Galaxy Note 7 , but rather a 2014 Galaxy Core Prime.
Samsung has stated it is working hard to ensure customers get new devices as soon as possible. Most markets will begin receiving new Galaxy Note 7 handsets Sept. 19.
