Samsung has confirmed a Galaxy Note 7 model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage will be available. Samsung Mobile Chief Koh Dong-jin detailed at a Galaxy Note 7 launch event in Korea that the model will be sold in China, the Korea Herald reported Thursday.
“It is true that we are reviewing the rollout of a new tablet with 128 gigabyte built-in memory in China because Chinese companies are aggressively doing marketing with high-capacity memory,” Dong-jin said during the launch event.
Prior reports have suggested the 6GB/128GB Galaxy Note 7 will sell for 6,088 yuan or $912; however, these claims have not yet been confirmed. The model is expected to be available in China Aug. 28, according to SamMobile .
There is no word on whether the high-capacity model will be available outside of China. Dong-jin noted Samsung is aware Korean consumers may be disappointed that the super premium model is not available in that market.
Samsung will ship the Galaxy Note 7 model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage to most markets, including Korea. The capacity discrepancy has not deterred Korean customers from being excited about the device. Galaxy Note 7 preorders in Korea surpassed 200,000 units in two days, double that of preorders for the Galaxy Note 7 in 2015, the Korea Herald reported Tuesday. The still device is also seeing high preorder popularity in Canada, according to Mobilesyrup
The Galaxy Note 7 will be available in Korea Aug. 19 with prices starting at 988,900 won or $896. The blue, gold and silver color options will be available in that market at launch, while the black option will release in October.
Though the Galaxy Note 7 will be available in a high capacity model, there is no word from Samsung or Google on whether the device will be compatible with Google’s Project Daydream VR initiative.
