While reports indicate new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 handsets are already shipping to the U.S., it appears carriers are not yet selling the safer models. However, sources claim Verizon may begin offering Galaxy Note 7 replacements Sept. 23.
A reddit user claims to have gotten information about the new Galaxy Note 7 release date from a Verizon representative; however, the precise date cannot be confirmed. Other reports suggest the new Galaxy Note 7 models will begin shipping as early as Sept. 19 . These claims have also not been confirmed.
Though Samsung quickly set up an exchange program following the Sept. 2 recall for the Galaxy Note 7, reports indicate that most users have not returned their handsets and continue to use them despite the risk. The Galaxy Note 7 is susceptible to catching fire and exploding while being charged. The danger has been noted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission as well as countless airlines globally, which require users to power down and not charge Galaxy Note 7 handsets while on a plane.
Though Samsung plans to rerelease the Galaxy Note 7 with new batteries provided by Chinese battery manufacturer Amperex Technology Limited, the financial fallout is expected to affect Samsung well into next year. Rumors indicate the manufacturer may release its forthcoming Galaxy S smartphone several months before its usual March or April time frame to offset revenue lost from the Galaxy Note 7.
