A new title from Bohemia Interactive is coming to Steam Early Access. Silica is a game that offers a crossover between RTS and FPS. It was developed mainly by a single developer by the name of Martin “Dram” Melichárek. Familiar? That's because he was the lead developer of Take On Mars, and his idea for the new title goes way back to 2008.
Enjoy the FPS Experience
The game is set in the fictional planet of Baltarus, located thousands of light-years from Earth. Players can choose to be an infantry soldier who controls units and vehicles and play the game in FPS.
This is a good option for those who want to experience sand-filled boots and have bullets flying overhead. It’s not all “foot power” since players can also take control of any available vehicles like the Harvester, Light Quad, or even Siege Tank.
RTS is the Way
For those who play RTS, they can choose to be a commander and send orders from a distance. They can deploy Harvesters to silica crystal fields and hide valuable resources they’re after. It’s also here where they can construct and place structures to produce and dispatch units that dominate the battlefield.
Three Game Modes to Choose From
There are different modes available for players to choose from. Of course, the Flagship mode is none other than strategy where players fight to dominate the battlefield by building, harvesting, and striking the enemy.
Next is the Arena which offers a fun and crazy environment. In this mode, players choose their favorite unit and fight against others in FPS free-for-all.
Finally, there’s Prospector mode. This is pretty much a tutorial and can be played in either single-player or multiplayer.
Game features include:
- 6 unique locations
- 3 engaging game modes
- Single-player and multiplayer options
- 5 infantry classes
- 11 distinct vehicles
- 8 alien creatures
- AI control for both commander and units
