Clam Blitz is a part of the new upcoming updates for Splatoon 2 Nintendo

Nintendo has done a great job of continually updating Splatoon 2, the popular Switch multiplayer game, and the new content will keep coming, as the company revealed its plans for future updates.

The first part of the update will arrive Nov. 23 and will include four new battle stages, expected to be rolled out over the next few weeks.

The first new battle stage, MakoMart, will be available to play on Nov. 24, with Shellendorf Institute, Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall following shortly after. MakoMart is a giant superstore-style stage and Shellendorf Institute is new to the series, while Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall are popular stages returning from the original Splatoon game.

Salmon Run will also receive a new stage called Salmonid Smokeyard. This environment will include a wide gap on the beach and divides into two upper platforms. The platforms are powered by fans. so you’ll need teamwork to power the lifts to get to the top.

New gear will also come to Splatoon 2, including winter-inspired clothing and gear from the original game. Four new hairstyles (two for female, two for male) will also be added to the game.

The latest Splatoon 2 update will also raise level caps from 50 to 99. When players get to the 99 level cap, they can visit Judd and reset their level display to Level 1 Star, so they can continue to raise their level.

New amiibo functionality will allow players to take and share photos in Battle Stages. Players will also be able to swap gear in between battles in Regular, Ranked and Splatfest Battles instead of having to exit a lobby to go into the lobby. This will save a ton of time.

The second part of this massive Splatoon 2 update comes in mid-December and will offer a brand new play mode called Clam Blitz. Clam Blitz will see Inklings tasked with collecting clams scattered around the stage. After one is picked up, the clam follows the player. The objective is to throw the clam into the basket near the opponent’s base. The first team to score 100 points wins!

But this being the fiercely competitive world of Splatoon 2, things are not as easy as they seem. The baskets are protected by a barrier, which much be destroyed first. After collecting 10 clams, the player will earn a Power Clam. These super-powered clams are the key to breaking the barrier, so strategy will play a big role in determining which clams are used to destroy the barrier and which are used to earn points. Not to mention there’s also the extra-satisfying opportunity to steal opponents’ clams by splatting them.

Splatoon 2 is available now for Nintendo Switch.
