Spotify has reduced prices for its premium family subscription according to the splash page for Spotify’s streaming plans. This price drop places Spotify’s family tier in direct competition with Apple Music, who has been offering a family plan since its inception.
Spotify family plan now costs $14.99 per month, with the $15 giving subscribers up to six accounts with premium access to Spotify's streaming catalog. While Spotify offers an ad-supported version of their service, Spotify users must sign up for premium to be able to listen to music on their mobile devices without shuffle automatically turned on. Spotify users on the free tier can not download music for offline use.
Apple Music offers a similar pricing structure as Spotify, with family plans that allow up to six different accounts going for $14.99, and individual and student memberships going for $9.99 and $4.99 respectively. Spotify has the same individual and student membership subscription costs.
There are a couple crucial differences between Apple Music and Spotify however. While Apple Music is willing to pay for exclusivity, such as with the recent release of Drake’s latest album, Spotify has an online web app that means users can stream their catalog via their web browser.
