A new TV spot for Star Trek Beyond adds to our understanding of Krall’s plan. Unfortunately, we still don’t really know what Idris Elba’s menacing alien wants (though he seems to hate the Federation), but we now know a little more about how he’s going about getting it.
From the previous Star Trek Beyond trailers we know a swarming fleet of ships tears apart the Enterprise, forcing the crew to abandon ship and fend for themselves on the hostile planet surface below.
This new TV spot reveals that Krall’s swarm fleet lures in unsuspecting ships by taking the form of a single, giant spaceship. Once a ship like the Enterprise gets in too close… whammo! Swarm fleet.

On Thursday, we wrote about Jaylah (the black and white alien played by Sofia Boutella) and how she’s not a native of the Star Trek Beyond planet Altamid, but was a survivor of another ship shot down by Krall and his swarm fleet ruse. The implication for the plot of Star Trek Beyond is clear: Krall has been up to this devious shit for decades. His plot is much more than just a reaction to the Federation encroachment on his territory.
We’ll know for sure what exactly he’s up to when Star Trek Beyond hits theaters July 22.
