The hopes for the future of Star Trek are pinned to Star Trek: Discovery. While Star Trek Beyond was a worthwhile entry, the diminishing box office returns don’t bode well for the ongoing series (godspeed, Star Trek 4). It seems likely the rebooted Star Trek will never be the mega-franchise Paramount expects of it. So far we know next to nothing about Star Trek: Discovery, but we have hopes and expectations. We’re angry and loud about them (frequently in these very comment threads). But no matter how Star Trek: Discovery (DSC, though haters have already dubbed it STD) is received, no matter how Star Trek soars or plummets, we’ll always have this van:
That’s release 235 from the Roddenberry Vault, which is releasing “never before seen properties including photos, scripts, production notes, stills, designs and more,” every day for 366 days, in celebration of Star Trek’s 50th anniversary.

Other highlights from the vault include this picture of Gene Roddenberry kissing Dr. Zira from Planet of the Apes:
Is that actually Kim Hunter? The caption doesn’t say. The complete collection is loaded with weird gems like that, plus letters from Roddenberry to fans, old convention photos (people wore suits!) and incredible 70s fan art.
We’re all anxious to see how Star Trek: Discovery turns out, but it’s good to remember once in a while that we’ll always have that rad van.
