The Star Wars Battlefront 2 release date will bring a brand new class system, and, if recent tweets from the EA Star Wars Twitter account are any indication, the team is really proud of it. The game’s latest gameplay screenshots showcase Darkside Assault Troopers, and they look really awesome.
As shown in the post below, Star Wars Battlefront 2 will feature several eras of Assault Trooper models based on the source film in which the battle takes place. In E3’s Assault On Theed gameplay demo, for example, the prequel map featured the thin and comical combat droid. For stages that require a more human touch, options for the New Order Trooper and original trilogy Stormtroopers will be available too. Under the watchful eye of Disney, these models look very close to(or possibly even better than) their cinematic counterparts.
While our hands-on time with Battlefront 2 has been fairly limited, what we can say about the Assault class is that it’s designed for speed and toughness in close to medium-range combat scenarios. It’s the kind of troop you’ll want to use to overcome a strong defense or to take key objectives. Armed with a basic blaster, thermal detonator and the ability to tag enemies, Assault class members track down the opposition and destroy them with brute force.
Other classes include the fully loaded Heavy Trooper, the support-favored Officer and the distance-combat Specialist. Under these categories, each class has three equippable abilities that unlock based on available Star Cards.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 aims to recapture the Star Wars battle fantasy mantra of the original game, but this time its multiplayer gameplay spans all three trilogies. While there will still be a lean towards the original trilogy this year, the prequels and Disney movies are getting some love too. Those who want to experience what the full game’s class system has to offer can participate in a pre-order beta this October.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 release date for PS4, Xbox One and PC is Nov. 17. Read our multiplayer impressions from E3 right here.
