Star Wars Battlefront 2 has two major problems outside its ludicrous progression system. Credit prices remain high for in-game items, so many players have resorted to credit farming. On the server side, rubberbanding and generic lag have frustrated players since day one. According to an EA developer, a fix for both shortcomings is in the pipeline.
The news arrives via two separate forum posts from Tuesday afternoon. With regard to lag, the verified EA employee said “there is a fix incoming through a game server update that we hope will fix this.” On the subject of farming, the source was slightly less sure, but still optimistic. “AFK farming I can’t comment on exact release timing but it's in the pipeline,” the developer confirmed, adding that it will “hopefully [be] out as soon as possible.”
This news arrives shortly after a progression-focused update increased the game’s static credit yield while offering bonus credits for top-performing players. In addition, the update added a larger number of Crafting Parts to all daily login crates. The aim is to make it easier to purchase more loot crates with more credits, and players should also have greater agency to control progression with greater amounts of parts. The end results aren’t exactly a drastic improvement, but when lumped in with previous price cuts, the current scheme is a lot more realistic than it used to be.
Still, both the server lag and AFK farming issues demonstrate some players still aren’t fully satisfied with these adjustments. Users spinning in circles can trigger in-game lag, and that’s exactly what farmers are doing. Those engaging in the practice, however, would likely argue they are doing so because EA has designed a progression system that works against them. The degree to which that is true is a matter of perspective, but it’s still a perspective that continues to degrade the finished product.
If there’s one positive thing we can take away from the source developer’s recent confirmations, it's that all teams involved with Star Wars Battlefront 2 remain committed to offering a better experience for players. To drive that point home even further, the first of several free DLC drops is set to arrive Dec. 13, in the form of new heroes and additional single-player content. If EA expects players to come back, it must address fundamental flaws in the gameplay systems.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
