Rey arrived to the planet Ahch-To at the very end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens to find the reclusive Jedi Luke Skywalker. Given its lush world, which was filmed at Skellig Michael, an island off of Ireland's Iveragh Peninsula, it's obvious that Skywalker isn't the only being on the planet.
Via MakingStarWars, the planet Ahch-To is inhabited by many creatures, including a new type of creature that is described as a "protector of the islands on Ahch-To," but also a friend of Luke.
These creatures are described as bird-like with a resemblance of Furby. In fact, the designers modeled these creatures after the puffin, which are also the birds that actually inhabit Skellig Michael. How's that for coming full circle?
According to the rumors, the Furby/Puffin-like features will feature razor sharp teeth to make them appear terrifying and adorable at the same time, much like the Ewoks of Endor, who first appeared in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
In relation to the movie, rumors suggest one particular Ahch-To creature befriended Luke Skywalker and the community has accepted the Jedi's presence as one of the guardians of the planet. On the other hand, the creatures did not give Rey permission to be on the planet. Rey supposedly must gain the trust of these creatures and show her worth. According to the rumors, a scene that involves Rey battling a large sea monster could be one of the trials that allows her into the creatures' circle of trust.
Star Wars: Episode 8 arrives Dec. 15, 2017.
