The latest leak about the upcoming Star Wars game from developer Visceral and director Amy Hennig has revealed a new character who will act as a partner to the main hero, Dodger. This information should not be considered a concrete fact, but it does come from Making Star Wars, which has proven to be a fairly reliable source of Star Wars information.
There are character and plot spoilers for the upcoming game below. Read on at your own risk.
In the last leak, we were introduced to the main character Dodger, a man who “dodged” the Empire’s draft and snuck away into the seedy world of organized crime. While away on a job, Dodger’s home planet of Alderaan is destroyed by the Death Star. This puts Dodger on a “Survivors List” of people from Alderaan who weren’t killed. The people on this list are then hunted down by the Empire and bounty hunters, until none remain.
The new leak introduces Robie Mattox, Dodger’s “partner in crime,” as MSW puts it. She is an orphan raised by the Wandering Star crime family. Among her many quirks, Mattox doesn’t like droids and artificial life creeps her out. She doesn’t trust anyone except Dodger and a small number of others, and knows she can count on Dodger when it comes to fighting.
Mattox will be a gunslinger, and is often depicted in concept art with a Han Solo-style holster on her leg. She can also be seen with a sniper rifle. MSW says many pieces of concept art use Natalie Morales, best known as Tom Haverford’s green card wife on Parks and Recreation, as inspiration for Mattox. It’s unknown if Morales will end up playing the character or if the developers just liked her look.
Last time we heard about the game’s plot, we knew Dodger agreed to do a job for Jabba the Hutt to get his name removed from the Survivors List. Now we know what that job is: kidnapping the daughter of a powerful Rang underboss. While Mattox agrees to help Dodger, she knows doing the job is a bad idea, but still keeps her sense of humor intact with friendly banter between her and Dodger.
While MSW does have a pretty strong track record when it comes to Star Wars leaks, this information should be taken with a grain of salt until official word comes from the developer or EA. Unfortunately, there’s no plan for any announcements as of yet, so we may be waiting for a while.
