There have been many hints dropped about Stranger Things Season 2. It will be less self-contained, laying the groundwork for Season 3. New Stranger Things episodes will probably return to Hawkins National Laboratory and feel like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. It might even disappoint you. But all we really know for sure are the episode titles and some new casting picks (Sean Astin and Paul Reiser).
But the cryptic hints continue. David Harbour, who plays Sheriff Jim Hopper, told Hollywood Life (while onboard a very weird celebrity cruise) that Stranger Things Season 2 takes place a year later and that information disparities, of all things, will be a major part of the plot:
“It’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year, like Will has come back. There are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened. So there’s a lot of fallout with who knows what.”
Yeah, okay.
Stranger Things Season 2 is expected to be larger in scope than the first season. Slashfilm shares this quote from Executive Producer Shawn Levy:
"Season 2 is bigger and potentially darker in its stakes. The threat, which in Season 1 was to Will Byers, has grown. That’s all I’m going to say! But, I will say Season 2 has a bigger cast and is definitely loyal to the kind of magical storytelling that we established in the first season. It’s character-based and still about our core group of characters."
Presumably rather than just one monster (the Demogorgon), Eleven and the rest of the cast will be dealing with the slug infestation, similar to Night of the Creeps or Slither . The Upside Down has a lot more dangers in store than one horny beast. But, assuming the cryptic hint train keeps rolling, we may not know exactly what’s in store until Stranger Things Season 2 premieres later this year.
