Indie game alert: new horror/sci-fi title Dead Synchronicity is headed to PS4 on Oct. 4.
Drawing inspiration from adventure games like Broken Sword and Day of the Tentacle as well as themes from I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream and Sanitarium, Dead Synchronicity is a 2D point-and-click adventure game whose art style borrows from German Expressionism for a touch of the truly unnerving.
Dead Synchronicity’s plot is detailed below (via a press release):
“The game tells the story of Michael -- a man with no past who must recover his identity and decode the two events that brought the world to the edge of collapse. The first is the so-called “Great Wave” -- an inexplicable chain of natural disasters. The second is a pandemic that has turned humans into “the Dissolved” -- infected beings with special cognitive powers whose sick bodies will eventually dissolve into blood. If Michael doesn’t hurry, he won’t be able to avoid the impending moment of ‘dead synchronicity’... when Time itself starts to dissolve.”
Dead Synchronicity launches on October 4 for PlayStation 4 in both boxed and digital format, though the Xbox One release date has yet to be confirmed. Gameplay is old-school and puzzle-based, and you’ll have an inventory to manage and dialogue trees to go through as you explore the world.
“We tried to give you the liberty to interact with plenty of locations and characters and to face different puzzles simultaneously, just like in old-school adventures,” says the game’s website.
Features include:
Revel in stunning 2D graphics that pay homage to German Expressionism.
Solve puzzles to move the story forward and unravel a horrific sci-fi plot.
Immerse yourself in a bloodstained world filled with dread.
Enjoy a point-and-click interface reminiscent from ‘90s classics.
Explore the world with old school “free-roaming” gameplay.
Play with English or German voiceovers accompanied by an atmospheric score by indie rock band Kovalski.
The PS4 boxed edition of Dead Synchronicity also contains:
Extended manual (developer artbook)
A3 poster
Original soundtrack
Dead Synchronicity is developed by Fictiorama Studios, an indie game studio founded by three brothers. Two of the brothers are members of alternative rock band Kovalski, composers of the Dead Synchronicity soundtrack.
