It’s been awhile since we had some fresh Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch rumors, and the latest bit of news comes from the Japanese trademark offices.
According to Japanese Nintendo , Nintendo has filed trademarks for images related to certain games and amiibo. There are two trademarks for The Legend of Zelda while Splatoon, Animal Crossing and Super Super Smash Bros. received one trademark each.
The video game company also applied for three standard character trademarks for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Pokemori and Marika. Pocket Camp is the upcoming Nintendo mobile game based on the Animal Crossing franchise.
While there’s been a few times in the past that Nintendo applied for trademarks and didn't do anything with them, seeing Super Smash Bros here does give hope for a Nintendo Switch port.
Supposed information on a Nintendo Switch port of Smash Bros. was revealed at this time last year with Source Gaming coming out with information on not just the Smash Bros. port but on an upcoming port for Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Virtual Console.
This time last year, Source Gaming reported that Super Smash Bros. Melee would come to the Nintendo Switch via a new GameCube Virtual Console, and a port of the Wii U/3DS Super Smash Bros. would also be making the jump.
“We’ve heard that ‘Smash for Switch’ (name not final) is a combination of 3DS and Wii U content, a ‘director’s cut’. The game will feature some new content including 2 new characters. We haven’t been able to confirm WHAT characters. We’ve heard that this version will include all the DLC,” said the Source Gaming story.
Nintendo Insider Doctor Cupcakes furthered the speculation by posting the following tweet that confirms new characters coming to the upcoming port of Super Smash Bros.
