We’ve had nine episodes of Supergirl Season 2 to get to know Mon-El, but his past is still largely a mystery. So far this season, he mostly just flirts with women, gets drunk, doesn’t do what he’s told and occasionally saves somebody. But after midseason break, fans may look at Mon-El in a different light. He has a big secret that’s eventually going to get out.
“Secrets are never healthy in a relationship and obviously Mon-El is holding onto something,” Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly. “We got a little taste that his life on Daxam might not be as over as we think from the glimpse of the space farers, who are on the hunt for him. So it will definitely play a big part in their relationship moving forward.”
If you remember from Supergirl Season 2 episode 7, “The Darkest Place,” Mon-El was gearing up to tell Kara a secret until he was interrupted by Jeremiah Danvers. Then, the midseason finale left off with an alien spacecraft approaching Earth. Fans immediately started to speculate about whether what Mon-El’s hiding has something to do with Earth-38’s new invaders. The most popular theory is that Mon-El is actually the prince of Daxam and the incoming spacecraft has something to do with that. When EW asked about that theory specifically, Kreisberg responded, “ No comment.”
All Mon-El told Kara about his past is he worked as a palace guard for the Royal Family of Daxam. The destruction of Krypton ultimately wiped out Daxam as well. However, Mon-El claims to have been saved by the prince . Supergirl believes Mon-El was the only survivor and Mon-El has claimed to not know anything that happened since he got in the pod.
If Mon-El really is the prince of Daxam, it could explain why he doesn’t seem too experienced in hand to hand combat. If he was actually a member of the guard, he probably wouldn't have gotten his ass kicked so bad. It’s understandable that if Mon-El was the prince, he would hide it at first. Kara was very prejudice against Daxamites at first and may not have taken Mon-El under her wing if he was a Daxam elite.
What doesn’t add up is the spacecraft originating from Daxam because according to J’onzz, the planet was completely destroyed. Mon-El’s secret could be the missing puzzle piece. Even if Mon-El isn’t the prince, there’s always the chance he’s not who he says he is. The fact his pod landed on Supergirl’s Earth may not be a coincidence. Maybe he came to Earth-38 specifically for Kara. What do you think? Sound off in the comments below!
