Indie pixel-art title Thimbleweed Park, a mystery adventure game, is officially set for a Mar. 30 release date. Check out one of Thimbleweed Park ’s trailers below:
Led by industry icons Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick of Maniac Mansion and Monkey Madness fame, Thimbleweed Park should bring fans of the classic Lucasfilm Games library a lot of joy with its retro point-and-click style and pixelated art, spearheaded by the inventors of the point-and-click adventure genre.
Over 15,000 backers pledged over half a million dollars to help bring Thimbleweed Park to life via its 2014 kickstarter. Thimbleweed Park ’s summary is as follows (via press release):
“Welcome to Thimbleweed Park. Population: 80 nutcases.
“A haunted hotel, an abandoned circus, a burnt-out pillow factory, a dead body pixelating under the bridge, toilets that run on vacuum tubes... you've never visited a place like this before.
“Five people with nothing in common have been drawn to this rundown, forgotten town. They don't know it yet, but they are all deeply connected. And they're being watched.
“In a town like Thimbleweed Park, a dead body is the least of your problems.”
Gameplay centers around five different playable characters between whom you switch to uncover the surreal secrets of Thimbleweed Park.
“We want Thimbleweed Park to be like an undiscovered classic LucasArts' adventure game you'd never played before. A game discovered in a dusty old desk that puts a smile on your face and sends a wave of nostalgia through you in the same way it does for us,” stated the creators on their Kickstarter page.
Thimbleweed Park will hit Steam, GOG and Xbox Live on March 30, with iPad/iPhone/Android to follow later this year.
