For those who have long wanted to play dodgeball, but could not find the space for it, a new board game might just be able to scratch that itch. Developed by Elan Lee and Matthew Inman, the same team that created Exploding Kittens, comes the new game Throw Throw Burrito.
Throw Throw Burrito is described to be a cross between a card game and dodgeball. The game is fairly straightforward, as players need to collect cards in order to earn points. Getting certain cards means that players need to grab toy burritos placed at the center of the table and throw them at one another.
The game is recommended for ages 7 and above. Regarding the toy burritos, the Kickstarter page explains that the developers conducted a lot of testing to ensure that not only do they not hurt on impact but also that they are easy to throw.
In order to get funding for the game, Lee and Inman launched a Kickstarter campaign on February 26. The campaign has a goal of $10,000, and ends on March 29.
Unsurprisingly, Throw Throw Burrito only needed 16 minutes to surpass the $10,000 goal. Within 72 hours, pledges exceeded $1 million. Currently, around $1.3 million has been pledged with 23 days left in the campaign. Once the campaign ends, those who pledged will receive the game by September. A general release is projected for the holidays.
In a statement, Lee said that he believes that this is the greatest game he and Inman have developed, while also thinking that the duo were crazy for making such a thing. He added that "[t]he overwhelming audience response to the game makes me realize both of those sentiments can be true at once."
This will be the fourth card game to be released by the team starting with Exploding Kittens. It was followed by Bears vs. Bears and then later with You’ve Got Crabs.
