For the moments in life when a simple emoji doesn’t cut it, there is Trumpoji: an app that is exactly what it sounds like. When a pictograph is not enough, users can send emoji of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to properly convey their sentiments.
“It’s a terrific app that works on all iPhones big and large,” said app creator Kyle Waring to The Boston Globe. “It’s gonna be yuge, mark my words.”
The app, which is currently only available for iOS users and has the theme of “Make Emojis Great Again,” contains 19 emojis of Trump. One emoji shows the Republican wearing black shades while another depicts him red faced in anger.
“We started with the basic kinds of emojis you have on your phone — the smiley face, the heart symbol. Then we took all the standard ‘Trumpisms,’ like his angry faces, and created and modeled them off of that,” said Waring, who made the app with his friend. “Then it kind of evolved as things got crazier and crazier.”
While the app costs $2.99, Waring has made other Trumpojis available online for free at Trumpoji.com. To use the online emojis, users have to save the images to their device’s photo album and manually paste them in their messages. The app, in contrast, allows users to use the emojis through the app’s keyboard.
Another notable difference between the app and the website is the latter contains emojis that were deemed too risque for the Apple store. These include Trump wearing a sombrero and another where he hides behind a wall.
Waring told The Boston Globe that he was encouraged by the popularity of emoji keyboards and he chose Trump because “it seemed like an interesting opportunity to showcase and allow people to share something they’re already talking about.”
Should Trumpoji be successful, then Waring will consider making emoji keyboards for Democratic candidates as well.
