Valve just revealed a brand new and limited edition white Steam Deck product that comes with an exclusive white carrying case.
The new color for the company's handheld console is coming next week but will have a limited supply. The white Steam Deck will be available for purchase starting on Nov. 18, 2024, and will remove the hassle of buying custom skins if you want a different color.
Limited Edition White Steam Deck
The recently revealed product is known as Steam Deck OLED: White Edition, which will feature the same specifications and hardware as the one terabyte model. It will also be available everywhere the base Stem Deck currently ships to, including Australia.
This is the second unique Steam Deck color edition that has been announced by Valve, with the first being the smoky translucent version that was released last year.
The company said that the latter was made as an experiment to see if there was any interest in an alternative color for the Steam Deck, according to IGN.
The studio added that the white version is the second experiment along those lines but the main difference is that it will ship to more regions this time around. Valve noted that it was curious to see what people's response to the white Steam Deck will be.
The company said that it will keep players informed about any future decisions it could have regarding possible color variants for the Steam Deck that it could introduce. Valve noted that it was pleased with fans' reception of the handheld console.
An Alternative Skin
Valve previously revealed that it planned to continually work on the Steam Deck console, both in a software perspective as well as a hardware view. The recently revealed limited edition white Steam deck will cost $679 when it finally comes out, The Verge said.
The base Steam Deck with the same hardware specifications as the limited edition white product costs $649, which means that the color variant costs $30 for the alternative skin. Valve has reassured players that it allocated stock proportionally across each region.
However, the company said that when the limited edition white Steam Deck sells out, it will not be making any more in the future. Valve also shared some images of the alternative skin console that showcases its sleek look.
Another thing that comes with the limited edition white console is an exclusive carrying case that is also color white as well as a white microfibre cleaning cloth. Valve previously noted that it is not planning on releasing a Steam Deck 2 anytime soon, according to PCGamer.
