The release of the narrative RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is a couple of months away. But everyone can now learn more about what the game has to offer with the latest gameplay video. Another video is set to be released this March 24 during the Future Games Show.
Before we talk about what the game is about, take a look at the gameplay video below:
In the game, players visit different locations to look for clues, solve puzzles, and interact with a wide range of characters. However, the game does introduce various gameplay mechanics.
For example, each of the three heroes come with a character sheet that players can fully customize. Players can choose to be an expert in speech and persuasion to dominate others. They can also develop technology skills to let them open locks and hack computers. The heroes also have vampire powers known as Disciplines. Leysha has Obfuscate which allows her to hide her presence. Emem, on the other hand, can use Celerity to reach otherwise inaccessible locations. Finally, there’s Galeb whose Domination can make others his puppet.
It’s not all investigation since some NPCs can trigger Confrontations. These are combat in the form of dialogue where players need to find the right arguments and use Skills and Disciplines to convince the other person to reveal what they know.
Powerful as those vampire powers are, they don’t come for free. They carry with them a high price which is the hunger for blood. If the hero is unable to satisfy that hunger, then their inner beast takes control and can affect possible actions. To prevent this from happening, the hero needs to feed on one of the humas. However, it has to be done out of sight to maintain the Masquerade. This is the vampire law which ensures that the existence of night creatures is hidden from humans.
There are also certain situations where scripted action phases are triggered, and players need to keep their head and make the right choices within a given time.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is set to be released on PC and consoles May 19.
