Warcraft 3: Reforged is the worst game ever, according to the user score from Metacritic. Currently, it sits at 0.5 out of 10. To put things in perspective, even WWE 2K20 and Metal Gear Survive have higher ratings than W3R. While Reforged took a heavy beating from user score, the critic score has been more than generous. W3R is currently rated as 63 out of 100. It is one of two games to have a user rating lower than 1, the other one being Day One: Garry's Incident.
Warcraft 3 Reforged is a remastered version of the 2002 RTS video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion The Frozen Throne. First announced at BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard claimed that the remaster will have remodeled characters and graphics, better cinematics, updated UI, and tons of features that were missing in the original. But that was not the case.
The “updated” cinematic that was shown in BlizzCon 2018 is missing from the actual game, the UI has not been improved and instead is considered a downgrade. The few things that are improved are graphics and textures, which were handled by another company known as Lemon Sky. Several features that were present in the original game like a “Clans” social system and “competitive ladder” are missing from the remaster. Although, the latter is planned to be added in the future. Several users are having connectivity issues and are unable to play the game.
Blizzard also updated its EULA stating that any custom maps made by users will be owned by the publisher and the creator will waive any moral or similar rights they may have in all such Custom Games, without any remuneration. In laymen terms, Blizzard will be the sole owner of all custom maps made in Reforged, not the creator of the maps. Reforged also replaces the original game, which means if you bought the remastered version you can no longer play the original. Blizzard also denied any refunds if the user opened the game even once.
It seems like Warcraft 3: Reforged will not be able to redeem Blizzard's name after the disastrous Diablo Immortal announcement and the Blitzchung controversy. The publisher really needed a win under its belt, and we can only hope that the upcoming Diablo 4 doesn’t meet the same fate.
