Warhammer 40,000, one of the richest fantasy worlds ever crafted, is finally making it to live action TV. To be officially titled Eisenhorn, the upcoming TV series will be produced by Big Light Productions, the studio behind the hit Amazon TV show, Man In The High Castle.
Eisenhorn will follow the story of Gregor Eisenhorn, the main character of Dan Abnett's novel trilogy that consists Xenos, Malieus, and Hereticus. In the novels, the Imperial Inquisition, including the main character Gregor Eisenhorn, are called upon to quell conflict across the known universe where war constantly rages.
In an interview with Polygon (thanks, Polygon!), Eisenhorn writer Dan Abnett described the appeal of Gregor Eisenhorn as the main character of a live-action TV series. "[Eisenhorn] is not the simple, ruthless hero he appears to be." Abnett said in the interview. "It’s not just the adventures, and they are certainly vivid: it’s the journey he takes to the very limits of what he is and what it means to be loyal."
Fans of the franchise will be happy to know that the Warhammer 40,000 live action series seems to be in good hands. Frank Spotnitz, Big Light Productions' chief executive and leading producer of The Man In The High Castle, will be the running the show alongside executive producer Emily Feller.
For those who are not very familiar with the story of Warhammer 40,000, the Warhammer 40,000 universe is set in the not-too-distant future, and follows distinct themes of science fiction and high fantasy to create something that transcends both genres. In Warhammer 40,000, magic and chaos are alive and well, but are blended into sci-fi technology so seamlessly as to make one almost indistinguishable from the other.
We don't know when exactly Eisenhorn will be making its live-action debut, but check back with us soon for more updates on the upcoming TV show.
