American Horror Story Season 6 premiered Wednesday, introducing the theme My Roanoke Nightmare . The season will follow a couple, played by Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr., who move to the country after the husband is attacked and the wife miscarried their child. Events will unfold throughout the season, showing how their new home in Roanoke, N.C. was too good to be true.
FX CEO John Landgraf divulged prior to the Season 6 launch that only one of the more than 20 teasers released for American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare matched the theme. It turns out the corresponding trailer is one called “Wind Chimes.” It features a woman dressed as a nurse taking garden scissors to a wind chime made of human teeth.
In American Horror Story Season 6 episode 1, Shelby Miller (Paulson) leaves her home during what she believes is a hail storm, only to realize what is falling from the sky is not hail but rather human teeth. Upon telling her husband Matt Miller (Gooding Jr.), he tells her she must have imagined it.
Season 6 is presented as a “based on a true story” documentary, with Paulon and Gooding Jr. playing reenactors telling a story that happened to another couple, played by Lily Rabe and Andre Holland. Other characters include Kathy Bates, playing a Roanoke Colony ghost and Angela Bassett, playing Matt Miller's sister. Lady Gaga has not yet been featured.
American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
