American Horror Story fans have likely come to terms with not knowing the Season 6 theme until Sept. 14; however, that does not mean there aren’t clues about what the upcoming anthology will tackle.
FX CEO John Landgraf revealed in early August that sniffing out the Season 6 theme won’t be very easy. The cable network has released a steady stream of more than 20 promo clips so far, leading up to the show’s premiere. However, Landgraf told TV Guide one only of the trailers reveals the theme of American Horror Story Season 6.
Our recommendation for figuring out which trailer is the correct Season 6 promo is to look at the eyes. Two promos stand out to us because they feature characters with illuminated eyes.
One trailer called “Sunset Stroll” shows a man, woman and child walking in a dimly lit outdoor area. As they approach the camera, their shining eyes are visible.
The second promo is called “The Mist” and features a odd four-legged creature crawling on a set of train tracks. Again, as the creature approaches the camera, its bright eyes can be seen.
Bringing our theory together is another promo called “Anthology,” which chronicles the themes of the previous five American Horror Story seasons. These include the man in the gimp suit from Season 1, the white nun from Season 2, the trio of woman the snake running through their mouths from Season 3, the anthropomorphic tent from Season 4 and the woman with the hotel key running through her face from Season 5.
Next we see a series of Season 6 trailer clips and among the clips shown, we see “The Mist” and “Sunset Stroll,” followed by several others that seem a lot more farfetched.
For now, it's difficult to decipher just what the American Horror Story Season 6 theme might be, based on those deliberately misleading promos. However, leaked images from the AHS set suggest the season will follow the legend of the lost colony of Roanoke.
