Soon following the official recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 by the Consumer Product Safety Commission , analysts have suggested Samsung should change the name of its device in order to differentiate it from the original model.
NH Investment & Securities analyst Lee Sae-cheol, indicated the Galaxy Note 7 should be known as the Galaxy Note 7s upon re-release, with the “S” standing for “safety,” according to ZDNet . The publication has also learned newer models will feature a green battery icon, to differentiate them from older models. Several transportation systems, including airlines and train and bus systems , have banned or restricted the use of Galaxy Note 7 models during travel, and the replacement handsets are expected to have several indicators confirming they are not a safety risk.
Samsung has confirmed new models will begin shipping next week with most replacements expected to be available by Sept. 21. Though there have been 92 incidents of exploding devices, overheating and injuries as of Sept. 15, most Galaxy Note 7 users have not submitted their handsets for exchange and continue to use them, according to data firm Apteligent .
The new models are expected to include a new battery from a manufacturer outside of Samsung’s usual supply chain. Samsung has said the new Galaxy Note 7 has been confirmed as safe by an independent source.
