A new trailer for WWE 2K18 is out this week, nearly a month after a similar live-action trailer confirmed Seth Rollins’ role as cover athlete, featuring WWE Hall of Famer and RAW General Manager Kurt Angle. There’s still no WWE 2K18 gameplay footage to enjoy. But the new clip is full of easter eggs for the older wrestling fans patiently waiting for this year’s wrestling game.
The new WWE 2K18 trailer picks up a short time after the events from the game’s first promo video. The promotional cycle for WWE 2K18 began with a short clip of former WWE Universal champion Seth Rollins destroying displays in one of WWE’s sprawling archival facilities. The Architect torches ring gear from iconic performers like Bret Hart, Ric Flair and Sting, destroys a rack of championship belt and and even melts the helmet Triple H used during his Conan the Barbarian inspired entrances at Wrestlemania. And now the WWE 2K18 community gets to watch WWE’s only Olympic gold medalist explore what’s left behind.
The new trailer isn’t as long as its predecessor and doesn’t feature as many references to the WWE roster. But there are a few, if you know what to look for, like the smoldering remains of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s ATV or the smoking skull championship belt from his second title run. It’s a bit weird to see 2K telling a story across the trailers, considering only one of the two men featured in the videos is still an in-ring competitor, but we’ll reserve final judgement until we’ve seen a few more clips. We certainly won’t complain if the promotional cycle for a video game is how we get Kurt Angle wrestling in a WWE ring again. And a similar “feud” was the basis for Brock Lesnar and Goldberg’s Wrestlemania match this year. So it’s not out of the question.
It’s certainly not as exciting as a new gameplay trailer. But anyone curious about the new Kurt Angle trailer for WWE 2K18 is encouraged to click play on the video below. Then head down to the comments and let us know who else you’re hoping to see on the WWE 2K18 roster.
