Publisher Merge Games and developer Jankenteam have just announced the upcoming remake of the classic platformer Alex Kidd in Miracle World during IGN’s Summer of Gaming 2020 live stream. Titled Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, the action adventure platformer will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in Q1 of 2021.
The iconic platformer Alex Kidd in Miracle World made its first appearance in 1986 for the Sega Master System. The game follows the journey of the titular young martial artist and his battle against Janken the Great – an evil villain who has kidnapped Prince Egle and Princess Lora of the city of Radaxian. Originally, the game had 17 stages filled with platforming obstacles, puzzles, monsters, and henchmen for the evil Janken before ultimately facing Janken himself. Alex Kidd has multiple ways of traversing the world such as smashing rocks, riding motorbikes, and flying helicopters. Players will also be able to purchase new items for Alex to use and aid him in fighting the game’s increasingly difficult enemies. The game has since been critically acclaimed, with praise towards its gameplay mechanics and exceptional replayability factor, even being dubbed as “Sega’s answer to Mario."
As for Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, the usual improvements found in remakes should be expected such as graphical upgrades, a “Retro Mode” that will allow players to switch to either the new or classic graphics with the touch of button, and “striking new art and tighter, more fluid controls”. New game modes are also getting added, including ‘Classic Mode’ and ‘Boss Rush Mode’ alongside the game’s Standard game mode. Additional levels have also been put into the game which expand on the game’s lore and introduce brand new enemies and vehicles. Lastly, its iconic soundtrack has been remastered and will be accompanied by a “wide array of reimagined music tracks from the original Alex Kidd in Miracle World."
Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX can now be added to your Steam Wishlist and will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in Q1 of 2021.
