The adult visual novel Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue will soon be making its western debut for the Nintendo Switch, as announced by publisher NekoNyan.
Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue tells the story of a world where flying through the sky is as commonplace as riding a bicycle, and where a sport called “Flying Circus” is what everyone’s raving about. This world is made possible due to the discovery of anti-gravitons and its usage in Anti-Graviton Shoes.
You play as Masaya Hinata, who was once considered a child wonder in the sport of Flying Circus until a crushing defeat made him turn away entirely from the sport. He then chooses to become a coach of his once loved sport. His passion for Flying Circus is reignited when he gets to teach transfer student Asuka Kurashina, how to fly. With Asuka by Masaya’s side, will he be available to reach heights he never thought he could again? Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue is a love story about those who met through the sky, surrounded by the friends they meet along the way.
As with all visual novels, much of the gameplay revolves around the narrative and focuses on your decisions and interactions with other characters as Masaya. Throughout the game, you will reach points that dictate how the plot will go, granting multiple endings. As a romance visual novel, you don't just have Asuka Kurashina, but three other heroines with unique plot lines that you can explore.
Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue was originally released for Japan in November 2014. Through a successful KickStarter campaign whose main goal was to crowdfund an English version for the PC, it also reached its stretch goal of 80,000 Euros (around $90,000 USD) to fund development for a localized Switch version. Additionally, the Switch version provides a Music Gallery mode wherein players can listen to BGM tracks from the game, a Sprite Viewer, and a Voiceline Bookmarker.
No release date has been announced for Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue yet, but the sequel Aokana EXTRA1 has also been unveiled to have a western release soon.
