Apple introduced a smaller iPad Pro to their iPad family at the company’s Town Hall event in Cupertino, Calif. Available for purchase on March 24, the device will come in four colors (gold, space gray, silver and, for the first time, rose gold) and three memory options: 32GB for $599, 128GB for $749 and 256GB $899.
Weighing less than one pound, the new iPad Pro has a state-of-the-art 12-megapixel iSight camera with focus pixels, true tone flash, the ability to shoot 4K video, retina flash, a 5-megapixel Facetime HD camera and 63-megapixel panoramas.
The new, smaller iPad Pro is compatible with the apps in Apple’s app store and is made of the same materials as the larger iPad Pro. Features include: custom timing controller and oxide TFT, reduced reflectivity, increased brightness, and a wide color gamut that gives greater color saturation.
The smaller iPad Pro is 40 percent less reflective than the iPad Air 2, making it the least reflective tablet on the market, and is 25 percent brighter than an iPad Air. It works in night shift — a new iOS feature that reduces the blue light wavelength and brightness during evening hours — and Apple’s new True Tone Display.
According to Apple Senior Vice President of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller, the product is the “ultimate upgrade” for current iPad users and for 600 million Windows users. Schiller adds that Apple has sold over 200 million 9.7-inch iPads, which is the company’s “most popular size.”
“We started iPad with a 9.7 inch display for a very good reason: it’s a large enough display to get all your work done and small enough to take it with you,” said Schiller.
The new iPad Pro will have a four speaker audio, an A9X chip, integrated M9 co-processor and supports “Hey Siri.”
Accessories are available for the small device including a smart keyboard, the Apple pencil, the USB camera adapter, and a SD card reader.
“We are so excited about this iPad Pro,” said Schiller.
