The sequel to Atomic Heart might be years away, but thankfully, the same can't be said for its expansion. Developer Mundfish has finally revealed the release date of the first DLC, and it's sooner than you think. The very first DLC titled Annihilation Instinct will launch worldwide on August 2.
This expansion will continue the story of our very talkative protagonist P-3, setting it just right after the base game. You can expect tons of cool new content including two new weapons, new enemies, and a brand-new area to explore. You will also meet some new and returning characters.
About Annihilation Instinct
The player's objective throughout the DLC is to find the truth about NORA — an AI gone mad. They will get to visit the Mendeleev Complex, which is surrounded by swamps. Shapeshifting new robot enemies have been added that will surely test even the best players, however, to fight these abominations, the developer is giving everyone some extra tools. A ranged weapon called Seceteur and a melee weapon called Klusha will be added. They will also get to use the new Techno-Stasis ability via their glove.
Annihilation Instinct is the first of four planned DLCs, with the other three launching at a later date. All four will be included in both the Gold and Premium editions of the game. The expansion will also be included in Atomic Pass, which is like a season pass for Atomic Heart. There is currently no way to purchase the first DLC alone, so either get all four or nothing at all, which is a bummer if you are only interested in one or two.
About the Game
Atomic Heart was released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in February 2023. The game received a positive reception from both fans and critics, with many praising its art style. Although there were some technical issues, they were later fixed by post-launch patches and updates.
