A new Zelda game is rumored to be launching on the Switch this month. However, it’s not exactly a Zelda game either.
I’m talking, of course, about Cadence of Hyrule, a spinoff of the roguelike rhythm game Crypt of the NecroDancer. Cadence of Hyrule is developed by the same developer, Brace Yourself Games, and will be made available to the Nintendo Switch. A past announcement made it known that the exact date of release is unknown, except that Cadence of Hyrule will be available this Spring. However, a circulating email for subscribers to Nintendo of Europe made the rounds recently, and it included Cadence of Hyrule in its subject line of “What to expect in May!”
The email was first dissected in a thread on ResetEra, and the thread also included pictures of the said announcement.
Crypt of the NecroDancer was a breakthrough title for its innovation of the modern roguelike, and it did so by combining the exploration of procedurally generated dungeons with a beat-matching rhythm section. Gameplay revolves around successfully performing moves, attacks and various other actions in accordance with the given beat. It’s refreshing, yet surprisingly challenging as well, given that you are actually planning your moves while reacting to enemies at the same time. Cadence of Hyrule will work around the same principle, although this time you have the option to play as either Link or Princess Zelda, both from The Legend of Zelda series.
The email also detailed three upcoming Resident Evil titles (Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4), Assassin’s Creed III Remastered, as well as the recently released SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech as releases coming this month.
