Any highly anticipated occasion deserves its very own countdown, and that’s just what Kojima Productions will be doing for their long-awaited debut title Death Stranding, which is set to release on November 8. To commemorate the launch, a countdown stream has been announced by PlayStation through their Twitter account. The stream starts on November 7 at 10:00 AM EST.
The countdown will be streamed on Kojima Production’s official Twitch channel (a YouTube stream on PlayStation Europe will also be available). It will be hosted by Hideo Kojima and his longtime friend, and industry household name, Geoff Keighley. Details regarding what the stream will contain is still unclear. Will Death Stranding be streamed? Also, some of the actors from the game’s star-studded cast will be present, but who exactly? We still don't know the answers to these questions.
Almost four years after Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami, fans of the legendary game developer have been awaiting what his next project would be. Since then, the community has been treated to mysterious snippets of babies in jars and Norman Reedus trekking across vast landscapes, which started with Death Stranding's initial showing at E3 2016. Kojima Productions and PlayStation have done a great job of maintaining secrecy throughout the game’s development. Now that launch day is inching closer and closer, marketing for the game has been out in full force with an eight-minute launch trailer kicking things off. Aside from the countdown stream, PlayStation and Kojima Productions will also be holding an exhibit in New York City titled “Fractured Worlds: The Art of Death Stranding”.
The hype surrounding Death Stranding has already been unprecedented, which is thanks to its magnitude, ambition, and the social themes it has decided to tackle. Whether the game lives up to the lofty expectations set by Kojima’s previous work will be for the players to decide. One thing’s for certain though – this is one of the biggest releases this year.
Death Stranding is set to finally launch on November 8 for the PlayStation 4, with a recently confirmed PC platform release to arrive within the Summer 2020 window.
