It was only a matter of time but we finally have confirmation. Sébastien “Ceb” Debs is stepping down and ending his career as a Dota 2 player. There’s no question that he has contributed a lot not only to OG but to the entire competitive scene.
In a post, OG revealed that when Ceb started playing Dota 2, it was all about the love for the game. He had been part of various teams before eventually becoming OG’s coach. It was during his term as the coach that the community started to notice the team, especially by winning the Majors at that time.
When both Tal “Fly” Aizik and Gustav “s4” Magnusson left OG, the organization went into disarray. This resulted in Ceb having little choice but to join the team as a player. He became part of the roster that was responsible for winning two TIs. OG tried to go for a three-peat last season but their efforts weren’t enough.
OG shared that being a professional Dota 2 player is not easy considering the sacrifices needed. For Ceb, he has given a lot to the game. His time, his energy, and even when was still recovering from eye surgery. The team did say that instead of treating Ceb’s move as a sad day, they want to celebrate the incredible career that he had.
Need to Move On
Ceb revealed that during his whole career, he had a win-or-die mindset. However, that mindset is not in him anymore. He said that he is never one to commit to a team unless he knows he has to give every second and every drop of energy to it.
He eventually realized that his motivation was no longer as strong as the roster. So, it was time to look at the sacrifices and see if they were worth it or not. Finally, he had to listen to his own body, which was getting hurt by his career. This made him recognize that he couldn’t do it anymore.
What do you think of the roster changes?
