Dragon Quest Treasures follows the story of Erik and his sister Mia. If you're a Dragon Quest fan and those names sound familiar, that's because they're both from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The two live on a Viking longship and dream of being able to explore the world someday and look for grand treasures. One night, they meet a pair of otherworldly creatures called Porcus and Purrsula. They are led to a mysterious ruin and come across a pair of Dragon Daggers.
After getting their hands on the magical daggers, they are then whisked away to the floating continent of Draconia. This is a legendary land and home to monsters and, of course, countless precious loot. Treasures include the seven legendary Dragonstones which have long been sought after by many treasure hunters.
As Erik and Mia travel, they learn how to fight with a team of monster companions and make use of their unique abilities to reach inaccessible areas and find hidden treasures. The two also need to make sure to protect their treasure not just from monsters but also from rival gangs.
In the game, collecting treasure allows the vault value of players to increase. This, in turn, lets them expand their home base and build up their brigade of friendly monsters.
The first Dragon Quest title was released in 1986. However, at that time, it was published as Dragon Warrior due to a conflict in trademark with another game. The series has since introduced a lot of features to the genre and brought a significant impact on the development of other RPGs.
Dragon Quest Treasures is a new spin-off of the Dragon Quest franchise.
