In the last two years, we have seen many games being delayed, no doubt because of COVID-19. Now, you can add one more to the list. Techland’s upcoming zombie game, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, has been delayed once again. However, this time we do know the release date. The game will now launch on all platforms on February 4, 2022.
The Delay
On Twitter, Techland claimed that the main part of development is complete, and they are currently in the playtesting phase. The delay is due to more time needed to polish and optimize the title.
Previous Indefinite Delay
As mentioned, this is not the first time Dying Light 2 has been delayed. The game was supposed to launch in the spring of 2020. But back in January of 2020, the developer delayed the game indefinitely. After more than a year’s worth of wait, Techland came back and revealed that the title is launching on December 7. Now we have yet another delay, and thankfully, it’s a small one this time around.
Similarities with Cyberpunk 2077
I am having a serious deja-vu right now. Another hyped title, Cyberpunk 2077, did the exact same thing with multiple delays. We just hope that’s where all the similarity ends. It would be a shame if Dying Light 2 becomes a disaster. However, we won’t be surprised. Previous reports have suggested that DL2 development has been quite troublesome.
Strong Competition
This delay could work in favor of Dying Light 2. Previously, the game release date was extremely close to another highly anticipated title, Halo Infinite. Infinite is planned for December 8. This might have seriously hurt DL2 sales figures quite badly.
Other big titles are releasing in February 2022, like Horizon Forbidden West, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, and the new Saints Row. However, these titles are more than two weeks away, so the sales figure of DL2 may not take much of a hit.
