Facebook is considering introducing a virtual tip jar to allow users to donate money to pages and people, reports The Verge after a recent survey, in which the social networking giant survey asked recipients to vote for how they would like to receive money.
The payment options included a virtual tip jar that allows users to “tip” a user through branded content, a “call-to-action” button and the option to embed a donation link.
While the survey’s questions was shared on the Facebook page of a verified user, there is no confirmation about who and how many people were surveyed. Thus far, it seems that the idea is being explored and there are no plans to roll it out.
“It’s still very early, but we’re committed to creating sustainable, long-term monetization models for our partners and we’re listening to feedback,” a Facebook spokesperson said in an email to The Verge.
Last week, Facebook announced the implementation of chatbot support to Messenger at its F8 developer conference. The “Bots for Messenger” feature is part of the latest Messenger update — a previous update introduced a “Bots and Businesses” section. A beta version of the platform was made live and companies were encouraged to start developing chat bots. The Facebook Messenger platform has 900 million active users and 50 million businesses on the platform, according to founder Mark Zuckerberg.
