It looks like Netflix wants a taste of that Revenant hype. Their new show, a Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) historical actioner called Frontier, looks like like the a woodsy splice of Natty Bumppo, Assassin’s Creed, The Revenant and just a dash of Conan the Barbarian (Momoa’s failed reboot had a decent first hour and his was a good interpretation of the character, imo).
Frontier stars Momoa as Declan Harp, a half-Native dude fighting against the Hudson Bay Company. He likes knives and First Blood-esque kills. That’s about all you need to know:
Honestly, it looks kind of terrible. But Frontier ’s blend of stabbing, starchy wigs and more stabbing certainly hits on enough fun action vectors that I’m crossing my fingers for it anyway. And the American-Canadian co-production already aired in Canada to positive reviews. Plus, Netflix apparently is satisfied with the six-episode series, since they’ve already renewed it for a second season.
The entire first season of the series will be available on Netflix Jan. 20.
