Gears 5 was released last year to mostly critical acclaim, with many veterans claiming the game to be the best installment in the franchise. Today, the Gears series is regarded as one of the important first-party franchises for Microsoft on the Xbox. It's also surprising that despite being a successful release, the game hasn't received any single-player content since it came out. However, according to a new rumor, things could be changing. It seems that developer The Coalition is working on a campaign DLC for Gears 5.
The rumor comes from a Steam database mine that suggests Gears 5 could be receiving substantial DLC in the future. Since Steam's database is publicly available, everyone can access it and data miners typically use it to find things that haven't been announced yet. In a recent database scrape, a dataminer discovered a new addition to Gears 5's Steam files, specifically something named "Gears 5 - DLC (1415070) Depot." This has led many fans to believe that a single-player DLC could be in the works.
Some Steam users have also pointed out that the new DLC listing is not placed under the downloadable content list, which typically involves microtransactions. Since this isn't the case, Gears fans are now left to speculate on what this DLC could turn out to be. Nevertheless, whatever the listing means, we'll soon find out.
It's also worth noting that this isn't the first time a Gears 5 DLC has been rumored. Several leaks and rumors made in the past were never confirmed. Therefore, it's better to take leaks and rumors with a pinch of salt. Also, it's likey that the DLC listing in Steam's database could have nothing to do with a Gears 5 DLC at all.
Gears 5 is currently available on PC and Xbox One.
