Things are looking to heat up this May for publisher Ubisoft, as they are now teasing what appears to be a new game, specifically tied into Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands.
Last Thursday was the official release of the Operation Oracle mission packs for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. It is part of a fully loaded season pass that continues to add updates way after its initial release two years ago. This new mission pack also stars Jon Bernthal of The Punisher fame, playing as Major Cole D. Walker, a Ghost leader very much like Nomad who has an agenda of his own.
It’s been a few days now since the update dropped, also bringing in a new wave of updates and patch fixes to the base game. While most of these are just regular updates with nothing out of the ordinary, a YouTuber named corecross has noted an invitation dropped in the updated contents for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands.
The invitation lists a date and a time for an event called “Auroa”, to be held on May 9 at 8:30 p.m. EDT. That’s this Thursday, barely a week from now. It also gave a link to a site for Skell Technology, which was featured in the game’s mission pack as an integral part of Operation Oracle.
Visiting the site, and entering the credentials given by corecross (UN: asantos, PW: 10068) gives you access to a video, a promotional material of sorts for the Skell Technology company, specializing in autonomous machines like drones and robots built for civilian use. Of course, there are implications that this is just a front for something much more sinister, especially if you play the Operation Oracle missions.
Now what could this allude to exactly? The most likely scenario is that this could be a teaser for a new title in the Ghost Recon series, with my guess being tied to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier. Why that game you ask? Well, its because that game, which was release back in 2009, depicted a near future in 2024 where autonomous warfare was beginning to take shape. If the teaser indeed does point to an entry in Ghost Recon, I’m inclined to think that it will be closest to something futuristic, which is what Future Soldier was.
On the other hand, Skell Technology also made rounds in DLC with connections to Splinter Cell, which could mean that this teaser is specifically for a new game in that series. The boss at Ubisoft has also noted that the Splinter Cell series will return, although there are no more details after the fact.
Whatever the case may be, expect to see our full coverage of the reveal once it hits on May 9.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is currently enjoying its free weekend as part of the Operation Oracle update, so if you’ve never tried the game, you may do so now by heading over to Uplay on PC and downloading it. It’s available to play on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
