Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has taken off in theaters worldwide and like many of the Marvel Studios films, there are a ton of Easter Eggs that comic book readers will be tickled by and some even set up possible future storylines.

New characters were introduced, the expansion of the Marvel Studio’s Cosmic Universe was well done and all five (!) post-credits scenes worked well to tease the future adventures of the Guardians.

Of course, there are major spoilers regarding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ahead, so if you haven’t seen it yet you may want to back out.

Before we get into the nitty gritty of post-credit scenes and nods, check out Mr. Sunday Movie’s breakdown of all the Easter Eggs found in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 -- minus the ones director James Gunn doesn’t want you to find.

POST-CREDIT SCENES EXPLAINED

There are five post-credit scenes in Guardians 2. While they are short they all served a purpose to plant the seeds for Guardians 3 and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

The first was a scene of Yondu’s second-in-command, Kraglin, donning Yondu’s fin and practicing to use Yondu’s signature whistle sword thing. This could mean Kraglin is the successor of Yondu’s weapon and could be a welcome new member of the Guardians.

The reformation of the “original” Guardians of the Galaxy team is the second post-credits scene. We say original, because in the comics the first group included some obscure characters like Yondu and Starhawk, which is the character Sylvester Stallone plays.

In this scene, we see Stallone and a few other notable Ravagers say they are getting the band back together, possibly for the third Guardians film if not for Infinity War.

The third scene shows off an adolescent Groot, who is in his room reading and listening to music when Star-Lord comes in and berates him like a father would their own teenager. It’s a funny scene and shows the audience that Groot will not remain Baby Groot and will become the Groot we love from the first movie in the near future.

We get a scene of Ayesha of the Sovereigns, who talks about the cocoon holding “Adam,” which we will get into later because it’s a huge plot point for future movies.

Audiences revisit Stan Lee’s character as he sits on the moon talking to the Watchers, a group of intergalactic beings whose job is to… watch. They don’t interact or try to change the course of history, they just observe.

Stan Lee acts as a Watcher Informant, which kind of explains why Stan Lee appears in every Marvel Studios movie and that he is the same character in each one.

WHO IS ADAM?

In the aforementioned Ayesha scene, where she says that they are creating “Adam,” it’s an obvious nod to Adam Warlock, a fan-favorite character in the comics and one of the main characters in the comics version of Infinity War.

For those who don’t know, Adam Warlock was a being genetically engineered by a group of scientists called the Enclave. They intended for Adam to be a more perfect version of Ayesha, who was also created by the Enclave.

Guardians 2 has changed up Adam Warlock’s origins to be the next step of evolution for the Sovereigns created by Ayesha.

Warlock’s big connection to Thanos and Infinity War is that he was in possession of the Soul Gem. Thanos is out to collect all of the Infinity Stones so that puts the two beings at odds.

It’s unclear whether Warlock will be featured in the MCU’s Infinity War, but he’s at least going to appear in Guardians 3.
