Developing a new video game IP comes with challenges, and this is especially true for AAA games. And new games can sometimes cause unexpected bugs, which often get resolved after the game's launch. Sometimes these bugs can also push the creative button in developers, resulting in a brand-new game like Ubisoft's Immortals Fenyx Rising.
In an interview with Game Rant, Immortals Fenyx Rising's game director Scott Phillips shared how a bug from Assassin's Creed Odyssey led to the development of Fenyx Rising. Phillips mentioned that in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, your main ship is usually comprised of a human crew. However, a development bug replaced the human crew with cyclopses, inspiring the team to look into a more fantasy-esque project. Phillips also added that having learned so much about ancient Greece and Greek mythology, the team took full advantage of the knowledge to make Fenyx Rising.
As you might already know, Immortals Fenyx Rising is heavily inspired by Greek mythology. Even the recent gameplay trailer shows off the protagonist, Fenyx, fighting Cyclops, Minotaur, and even Medusa. The game will also feature the Gods of ancients Greece, notably Zeus and Prometheus.
It isn't just Immortals Fenyx Rising that was inspired by game bugs, other popular games were too. For example, Devil May Cry was inspired by a bug in Onimusha: Warlords.
Immortals Fenyx Rising, formerly known as Gods & Monsters, is an open-world action-adventure game. The game also seems to draw a lot of inspiration from Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild. In the recent Ubisoft Forward digital event, the company shared additional details on Immortals Fenyx Rising, announcing an exclusive demo for Stadia users before the game's launch. The game has also been confirmed to get a free next-gen upgrade for PS4 and Xbox One buyers.
Immortals Fenyx Rising is releasing on December 3 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia. The game will also launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
