Tinder’s success rate in pairing users up with their romantic match may be up in the air but the dating app is now offering a feature that will help you find your presidential counterpart. The app’s new “Swipe the Vote” feature, which has been made in partnership with Rock the Vote, will let users find their presidential candidate after they answer a few questions.
“We’ve been amazed by the amount of users expressing their political views with matches during this presidential campaign,” said Tinder in a press release.
As of Wednesday, Tinder users will see a “Swipe the Vote” video card while they are swiping through their matches. To find out which presidential candidate is most aligned with your views, simply tap on the card and click on "Take The Poll."
At this point, users will receive questions to answer via swiping — swiping right means you agree and swiping left means you don’t. If you’re not up to speed about an issue, then tapping the card before swiping will offer more information so you can provide an educated answer.
After 10 questions on hot issues, which vary from same-sex marriage to oil drilling, the app will match you with the candidate who best fits your views. Users can also use the feature, built in collaboration with a real-time polling platform called Wedgies, to compare candidates.
“We’ll show you how you compare with other candidates, too,” said Tinder. “Tap on candidates to learn more about the specific issues you agree and disagree on. From there, you can share who you matched with on social and - most importantly - easily register to vote with Rock the Vote.”
This feature comes to the app after users made headlines for using the app to recruit supporters for their candidate of choice. Two women were banned from the dating app for sending a disproportionate number of pro-Sanders campaign messages to matches, while a Marco Rubio supporter created a fake profile for the Florida senator.
