Learn More About The Pokémon Go Throwback Challenge 2020 Special Research

Early this month, Pokémon Go launched its Throwback Challenge Timed Research. It’s a series of four events, with each event lasting a week. The last challenge is set to begin this Friday, May 22. You can read more about that here.

Once all the events are completed, there is one more which is the Throwback Challenge 2020 Special Research. This special Timed Research starts on June 3 and ends on June 8. Today we look at this one a little deeper.

For this event, Trainers join Professor Willow to discover Pokémon originally found in the Unova region. That’s not all, as the event also serves as the debut of Pokémon in the Galar region. One difference here is this Timed Research can be completed at any time.

There are two ways to unlock this Timed Research. The first is to complete any of the previous four Timed Research objectives. For those who failed to do so, there’s still a chance by buying a ticket in the shop.

In order to get a ticket, players need to open the game from June 3 at 1:00 PM (local time) to June 8 at 1:00 PM (local time). While Trainers can indeed buy a ticket, the bad news is that it can’t be bought using PokéCoins. This one is only available for $7.99 plus taxes or fees. In addition, the ticket is nonrefundable. To get a ticket, follow these steps:

• Open the Pokémon Go app.
• Tap the Poké Ball icon.
• Tap Shop.
• Tap the Learn More button in the shop.
• Tap the Buy button.
• Trainers should get a pop-up showing that they received the ticket.
• Tap OK and after that the ticket should be in the Item Bag.

Once this Timed Research has been unlocked, Trainers receive these:

• Encounters with Galarian Meowth and Galarian Stunfisk.
  • This marks their first appearance in Pokémon Go.
• Research tasks lead to encounters with Pokémon originally discovered in the Unova region which include:
  • Audino
  • Blitzle
  • Darumaka
  • Genesect
  • Gothita
  • Oshawott
  • Snivy
  • Tepig
• Earn exciting rewards like Professor Willow's glasses as an exclusive avatar item.

For Trainers who didn't buy a ticket, or don’t want to spend the cash for one, they can still experience these features during the event period:

• Galarian Stunfisk makes its official debut to Pokémon Go.
  • Trainers can find this one in the wilds, in raids, and even Throwback Challenge 2020 Special Research reward encounter.
• These Pokémon make their official debut in the game and hatch from 7 KM eggs along with their usual forms:
  • Galarian Meowth
  • Galarian Zigzagoon
  • Galarian Darumaka
  • Galarian Stunfisk
• Pokémon originally discovered in Unova now appear in the wild more frequently.
