It was revealed last week that Microsoft will empower its gaming development and Xbox with generative artificial intelligence (AI) which was met with massive backlash from the industry.

However, this is not preventing the company from doing what they are already planning, with Muse being only the beginning of a broad campaign by Microsoft to deliver AI gaming.

Microsoft's AI Gaming Future: Muse Is Only the Beginning

According to the latest report by The Verge, Microsoft's massive focus on AI is now more apparent after the company introduced its latest project. Despite the company not explicitly stating that Xbox is using generative AI for its game development, certain signs have made it apparent that this project will be linked to its gaming division.

Last week, Microsoft unveiled its latest AI project known as Muse, an experimental AI model that is meant to introduce generative AI in gaming to be used for its development, creation, and more. It has been with preserving classic and old games.

It is important to note that this announcement not a popular one among Microsoft and Xbox fans, especially those who are classic or retro game enthusiasts as they that the experience will not be the same if AI gets involved.

Despite the backlash, a recent podcast featuring Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed the massive plans for Muse and what it can bring to game development. Nadella describes Muse as a "Wow" moment for the company, and it is already ramping up its AI-generated game development.

Copilot Labs AI-Generated Game Is Coming

Apart from Muse, Microsoft is also utilizing its other model, Copilot Labs, to help create and develop games, with the company already preparing to release "at least one" AI-generated game this year.

Moreover, Microsoft is currently experimenting with its generative AI models to help create games using the technology, with the company already having several minigames developed by Microsoft Research.

Microsoft, Xbox, and the Gaming Industry

The massive focus given by Microsoft to its gaming division, particularly Xbox, has been notable over the past years, particularly as the company completed its Activision Blizzard acquisition, which helped broaden its horizon.

That being said, Microsoft claimed that it will no longer push the gaming industry to make a switch to Xbox consoles as it is positioning itself as a games distributor in the market. Xbox will focus more on its games, offering the first-party titles to be made available across competitors.
