Paging all Narcos fans! The series, which chronicles the life of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, finally has a Season 2 release date. Netflix announced on Monday that Season 2 will premiere on Sept. 2.
Netflix took to Twitter to announce the premiere date, referencing the show's roots in real-life events surrounding the Medellín Cartel. The tweet reads: “Narcos is back on September 2. If you don't want spoilers, be sure to avoid Wikipedia until then.”
The first season of the critically acclaimed series introduced Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and his thriving drug business. The season showed 15 years of Escobar’s life, from his political endeavours to getting captured. By the finale of Season 1, Escobar escaped from prison and it is likely that Season 2 will capture his life on the run.
Ultimately, Escobar’s story will end with his death, according to Eric Newman, one of the two executive producers of the show.
“He will die,” said Newman. “The design of the show is we told 15 years of history in season one. At the point of Escobar’s escape which is the summer of 1992, Escobar has 18 months to live. That’s not something we can change. To stretch that out beyond another season would be disingenuous of us. That story was always designed to have an ending.”
