Necrobarista, the game combining coffee and ghosts in the land down under, will be increasing a slight launch date delay, but developer Route 59 promises that the anime-styled visual novel will still be coming in Q3 2019.
In a statement released on their Steam page, Route 59 explained that due to unforeseen circumstances, the visual novel game needs a little longer to percolate. Also, last minute polishes and multiple language support will be implemented, explaining the delay for Necrobarista. The overwhelming fourteen languages that will be supported once the game launches are: English, French (& Canadian French), Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, and Dutch.
The developers continued by stating: “We understand that it's a little disappointing to see a delay this close to launch, but the game will be a whole lot better for it - promise. We'll share more details about our release date as soon as we can, and rest assured - there are more exciting announcements incoming!”
For those who aren’t in the know, Necrobarista is a visual novel that is set in Melbourne’s “hipstery” (their words, not mine) coffee culture, the taboo practice of necromancy, and the process of letting go. Its anime and cinema inspired theme is evident in its gameplay trailer, with multiple point of view switches during each conversation, mimicking different camera shots as if in a film. Necrobarista also makes use of a 3D world which is complementary for a genre that is driven mainly by a strong narrative and character development. Usual mechanics for visual novels are present, such as branching storylines and multiple endings, which players will experience once they are jumping from café to café in-game.
Route 59 has yet to provide new release date for Necrobarista, but seeing as they linked the Wikipedia description of Q3 on their statement, we can expect a launch date on Steam and Playism for the PC anytime between today and September 30. No news has been mentioned regarding its PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions, so its safe to assume that they are still on track to release in 2020.
