An update is in store for Netflix’s iOS app for iPhone and iPads on Wednesday. One of the key changes will help users binge-watch content more seamlessly on their smartphone and tablet.
With the updated app, users will be able to automatically start watching the next episode without a break or having to press a button. This feature is already available on other platforms -- Netflix is available on over 1,500 different devices -- and will finally grace the lives of iOS users.
In addition to the autoplay feature, the iOS app is said to have a “more fluid” design on the homepage which will, in theory, help the app load images faster. Netflix vice president of product innovation, Chris Jaffe, told Business Insider that the goal is to "just to make things really, really stupid simple.”
Jaffe also revealed that Netflix will be improving its settings later this year to help users better manage their mobile data usage. Additionally, users will get the option to select HD streaming and there will also be a data-saving mode, which will let the streaming quality to drop below 1080p when required.
Earlier this year, Netflix made a major announcement about its streaming platform: it is available worldwide in every country except China, North Korea, Syria and the region of Crimea.
“With this launch, consumers around the world -- from Singapore to St. Petersburg, from San Francisco to Sao Paulo -- will be able to enjoy TV shows and movies simultaneously -- no more waiting,” said Netflix CEO and co-founder Reed Hastings at CES. “With the help of the Internet, we are putting power in consumers’ hands to watch whenever, wherever and on whatever device.”
